Lets play ball in the park

a boy walked down a busy city street

staying very close to his mother

clutching the ball tightly

on their way to play in the park

cars buses and trucks noisily sped by

the boy was oblivious to the traffic

his mind was fixed on playing ball in the park

his mother took a call on her cell phone

the ball slipped from the boys hands

he stopped walking as the ball went down

it struck his foot and bounced up in an ark

the ball was heading for the road

everything went into slow motion

the boy reached out towards the ball

he was stepping towards the road

his eyes focused solely on the ball

his mother was talking on the phone

but for some reason her instincts kicked in

she spun round and saw the ball in the air

and her son following it towards the road

she lurched towards the boy

grabbing the hood of his coat

pulling him back away from the road

they both spun round and fell in a heap

as they sat on the sidewalk

they both watched the ball in slow motion

it bounced once in the road

then landed under the wheel of a passing truck

a loud bang signaled its total destruction

the shredded remains smashed into the road

the boy looked deep into his mothers eyes

they went shopping for a new ball

the ultimate journey

There are many paths to chose from in life

but very few markers or or maps to consult

parents and mentors can give you guidance

ultimately its up to you to navigate on your own

there will be dangerous obstacles to overcome

temptations abound for taking wrong turns

sometimes you will make mistakes

making U turns to get back on the right track

excuse me am I on the path to success

will you show me the way to utopia

can I follow you on the road to happiness

how do I get on that gravy train

education is a great navigation tool

not just learning facts and figures

for when you are at a dangerous crossroads

ethics and moral values will be your guides

sometimes the path gets steep and rocky

littered with failures and those who cling to you

pulling you in all directions and jumping on your back

offering you hedonistic rides to a non-existent paradise

does that sign say this way to riches without hard work

will I be seen as a failure if I give up now

this place has an evil smell

oh no I have been down this bad road before

the road seems never ending

indeed it will continue as a lifelong journey

the sweetest moments are the unplanned pauses

to smell the roses and bathe in the glorious scenery

when you have taken the right path and reached your goals

you can look back and figure out how you got there

I have lived inside two stars

I remember so well our first date

There was a twinkle in your eye

Sparks crackled with our first kiss

One of them set my heart alight

A warm steady glow at first

Flames began to flicker

Soon my heart was an inferno

An everlasting burning deep love

Fueled by your happy smile

Your touch caused those flames to explode

You told me your heart was ablaze too

Together we formed two bright celestial binary stars

We rode that energy with abandon

Nothing else really mattered

Our love was powered by nuclear fusion

It was going to last forever

It did so for decades

Suddenly your fire for me was extinguished

It was glowing for somebody else

My flames kept burning

Resisting all your attempts to snuff them out

Burning bright even after you left

Fueled by hope that you would someday return

When I ran out of hope fuel

I poured gallons of desperation on my glowing heart

Unfortunately desperation is not combustable

The glow went dimmer and dimmer

My burning star joy replaced by intense agonizing pain

It was unbearable when my fire went completely cold

I feared it would never burn again

Slowly my pain became almost tolerable

Subsiding to dull ache for most of the time

Memories would cause that pain to intensify like a stabbing knife wound

Reminding me of what my life used to be

Punishing me for something that was not of my doing

Eventually I found a cure for my pain and suffering

I had to let go of you completely

Sever the ties of our dead binary stars

Then suddenly all the pain was gone

Replaced by a calming emptiness

It was my way of grieving for a death

Although you were still alive and walking around

You were not the same person who once stoked my flames

That was a different you back then

I grieved for a while as I gazed at other galaxies

I was finally in control of my life again

Knowing that you could no longer trick my wounded heart

Your fake smile emitted no sparks for me

You last parting limp hug felt stone cold

I looked into the night sky checking out the constellations

Just a black hole were our stars once burned bright

It was time for me to take a journey through the universe

A bumpy ride fighting off many alien invaders

Then I spotted an interesting star in the distance

Glowing brighter when I approached

I wasted no time flying right into her heart

Mine was on fire the first time I kissed her

This binary star will burn bright eternally

work work work work fishing work work fishing work fishing work fishing fishing work fishing fishing work fishing

In the early days of my career

I was very ambitious and worked hard

Long hours and weekends were consumed

By my relentless drive to reach every working goal

As soon as I achieved a promotion

I set myself a new target for the next one

It was like running on a treadmill

That went faster and higher without a break

One day a good friend said he was concerned

That my work-life balance was all wrong

He said we were going on a fishing trip

To take my mind off work for one day

I thought it was a waste of time but agreed

We caught no fish the first day

Vowing to try again the following weekend

And so started a new passion outside my job

My fishing knowledge improved through focused learning

Progressing from pure leisure to competitions

Pitching my fishing skills against others

Winning lots of trophies and prizes

My performance at work also improved

I no longer worked weekends

Enjoying more time with my family

Fishing was my weekly stress relief

My work-life balance was restored

It took me a long time to realize

That fishing is a form of meditation

Clearing your mind of all random thoughts

As you focus on a single thing

If you practice meditation you can find the answers

To problems that had seemed unsolvable

Retirement put an end to working goals

Replaced by goals for learning, lifestyle, family and friendships

I rarely go fishing now but I do find time to meditate daily

Namaste

Until her angel flew down to kiss her

She was a very attractive young woman

Searching her way through life

Not really knowing what direction to take

Until her angel flew down to kiss her

She was something of a wild child

Always ready to party and have fun

No plans to leave that lifestyle behind

Until her angel flew down to kiss her

She had no trouble attracting boyfriends

Meaningful relationships eluded her

She thought she knew what true love was

Until her angel flew down to kiss her

She had a very successful career

With no intentions of giving it all up

No thoughts of devotion to a lifelong partner

Until her angel flew down to kiss her

Her girlfriends were all settling down

Some were having babies

She never dreamt of getting married

Until her angel flew down to kiss her

She was not particularly religious

Open minded but a little skeptical

Never really understanding the meaning of faith

Until her angel flew down to kiss her

God had seen her from above

Sending his son to fly down to her

She never imagined God would find her

Until her angel flew down to kiss her

What fuel do you put in your hope engine

The only two certainties in life are death and taxes

You might think this quote originated from humorist Mark Twain

You may believe it came from Benjamin Franklin in1789

However it has been traced to earlier origins

In 1716 Christopher Bullock wrote the Cobbler of Preston with the words

Tis impossible to be sure of any thing but Death and Taxes

So maybe the quote should be modified to say

The only three certainties in life are death, taxes

And the uncertainty of who first said this

Uncertainty is with us constantly

We never know for sure what will happen today

Or what tomorrow may bring

You may at any moment be bathed in bright light and happiness

Then plunged into darkness and despair in an instant

You could be jogging along on an aerobic high

Before tripping on uneven pavement and knock your teeth out

You may be struggling to make ends meet

Then suddenly learn of an unexpected inheritance

You may be battling a terrible long drawn out illness

To learn from your doctor that you have completely recovered

Light always precedes darkness

Darkness always follows light

The exact timing of your own change in brightness is uncertain

The only thing certain is uncertainty

Embrace the uncertainty in your life

Use it as fuel for your hope engine

The empty chair

Standing by the balcony railing

His health was rapidly ailing

Admiring the spectacular view

Picking out the spots that he knew

Recalling the happy times he spent there

As he sampled the cool morning fresh air

Every breath calming his mind

Accepting he would soon leave this all behind

Not wanting to linger and whither away

He decided that this was his final day

Stepping onto the empty chair

Over the railings and flying through the air

Eyes closed as he accepted his fate

Time slowed down and made him wait

Confused and perplexed as he opened his eyes

Looking at his bedroom ceiling in surprise

Things are not always as they seem

It was all a vivid technicolor dream

He quickly stepped out of bed

Images of the balcony view filled his head

He stepped outside to see the same view

Picking out the spots he knew

Recalling the happy times he spent there

Next to the railing was an empty chair

Love rules

Conflicts inevitably erupt between couples

Often over trivial matters

Sometimes we think we are right

And then the other person disagrees

An argument ensues

Differences of opinions are expressed

Perhaps insults are thrown

Do we then listen to the other person

Or are we just pushing our own agenda

How does this all get resolved

Do we both walk away without closure

Or do we stay and fight

In any conflict somebody has to give way

Find a middle ground for a compromise

Tolerance is a virtue

Allowing others to pass your boundaries

Then explaining calmly to them how you feel

Giving them time to express their feelings

Seeking forgiveness when needed

Calming down and regrouping

Expressing forgiveness first

Leaving the door open

Not running away

Its hard

Nobody is perfect

We are all human

Its a tough journey

Navigating through life’s hurdles

We often think others have it easier

But the reality is its a constant struggle

Nobody breezes through life unscarred

Partners have to give each other space to breathe

While recognizing the needs of each other

And finding the right moments to be together as a team
