Circa 2009- THE MEAL

At the end of night out on the town in Maryland with a bunch of friends, somebody suggested we go to Denny’s. I am not sure if it was a late dinner or a 3am breakfast but one thing stood out on the menu- Moons over my Hammy – Ham and scrambled egg sandwich with Swiss & American cheeses on grilled artisan bread. Served with hash browns.  We all ordered this dish. The most memorable thing was when one of our group fell asleep at the table with her head resting on her plate of moons over my hammy

2023- CINCO DE MAYO

A gathering of friends at the Miami Yacht Club listening to live music and celebrating Cinco de Mayo.  Suddenly the moon appeared on the Miami skyline and everybody rushed to take photographs. This scene brought back memories of other moons over Miami

Nocturnal soulmates reunited

The full moon was low on the horizon

Moonbeams bouncing over the bay

A big dark cloud raced across the sky

The moon lit up the edge of the cloud

A valiant but futile protest

The cloud pushed on

Mischievously blocking all the moonbeams

The waters of the bay looked up

Urging the wind to shift that cloud

The wind responded with huge gusts

Soon the tail end of the cloud glowed silver

The cloud was simply blown away

A bold smile reappeared on the face of the moon

Moonbeams flooded the bay

We give thanks the wind said the waters

As the wind blew the cloud further away

The sky made a public declaration

Establishing a no fly zone around the moon

The wind settled down

The waters on the bay went flat calm

Moonbeams joyfully bounced off the water

The cloud looked back and sulked

He only wanted to see his shadow

The wind, the waters the sky and the moon all grinned

Nocturnal soulmates reunited

They chatted endlessly swapping stories

Recalling past adventures together

They drank moonshine all night

The wind provided the loud music

A dance floor was set up on the bay

They partied hard until dawn

moonbeams last forever

not long after after sunset

the full moon peeked over the horizon

she was bright orange

mimicking a sunrise

but the sky remained dark

the moon floated over the ocean briefly

scattering orange moonbeams towards the shore

before steadily climbing up into the dark sky

her orange coat slowly faded

soon she was bathed in white light

wispy clouds danced around her

moonbeams flickered over the water

I reached out to capture one

holding it gently in my hand

it offered no resistance

I put in in my pocket for safe keeping

when things look bleak and really dark near me

I reach into my pocket for that moonbeam

it brings a soft calming glow to all around

turning chaos into order

changing anger to peace

indifference becomes caring

numbness grows into love

frustration gives way to satisfaction

moonbeams last forever

thank you lady moon

Silent Moon

I woke up in the middle of the night

no recollection of a bad dream

no restless thoughts filled my head

not woken by a storm or a strange noise

I was simply wide awake and at peace with all

soft moonlight spilled through a crack in the curtains

something urged me to step outside and explore the night

the back door creaked like the reluctant bones of an old man

cool intoxicating night air filled my lungs

I held my breath for an eternity

fearing that I might wake up sleepwalking

I pinched myself to verify I was truly awake

the golden moon was low on the horizon

silently conducting his nocturnal orchestra

a light breeze propelled invisible dancers across the sky

rustling leaves provided a choral backdrop

a flute soloist floated aimlessly down the the creek

twinkling stars plucked the harpsichord strings

wispy clouds played violins as they drifted across the moon

a solitary owl performed a horn solo

the flock of geese joined in with their clarinets

bass drums from a startled deer crashing through the forest

playful mice pianists tickled the ivories

beautiful calming sounds filled my ears

the entire orchestra fixed their gaze upon the conducting moon

waiting for his signal to play their piece

adjusting the tempo at his command

throughout the performance the moon remained silent

no need to express his thoughts

his orchestra said it all

Lunar lunacy

The moon floats in a sea of clouds

Drifting through the balmy night sky

Moon beams and clouds collide

A mixologist’s astronomical nocturnal cocktail

Not shaken, not stirred, straight up

The moon patiently awaits for the clouds to disperse

Without shame she brazenly displays her naked glory

The clouds look on in awe

Earthbound cameras click and record full frontal moon images

lunar lunacy erupts on social media

Soft moon porn videos go viral

The moon is totally unfazed

She has no Facebook feed or Twitter account

Her mood is independent of virtual likes

She continues her slow seductive dance over the night sky

Upon reaching the horizon she quietly slips out of view before dawn

New stories flood the internet and moon Google searches fade away

After a busy night of dancing through a starry sky the moon now sleeps

She dreams of those who stare at her distant beauty

As those who dream of her wake up to a rising sun

my magic carpet ride

two hours and twelve minutes after sunset

a glow appeared on the southerly horizon

suddenly the tip of the moon crept into view

slowly she climbed above the horizon

a full strawberry moon in a clear June sky

it was such a memorable sight

she seemed so much bigger than when up high above

on such a quiet night the wind respectfully stood silent in awe

the still waters of the bay became a nocturnal mirror

the moon paused briefly while low in the sky

she was an expert seductress

dressed in a fiery orange suit

reflecting a broad orange moonbeam over the bay

this carpet of light pointed directly towards me

inviting me to walk its path towards the moon

come visit me she whispered come visit me now

I knew this was a once in a lifetime opportunity

with eyes closed I stepped onto the carpet

strangely I felt mo fear at all

soon I was flying over the bay

whizzing though the clouds and higher

my magic carpet ride to the moon
