The moment belonged to me

Sitting on the dock

Still cool air at sunrise

Flat calm water

Gentle humming sound

An approaching boat

Early morning fisherman

Carving up the resting water

Pushing waves to the banks

Sunlight flashing in the ripples

The fisherman waved at me

I waved back

An unspoken gesture of good luck

He headed towards the inlet

His wake slowly fading away

Glass reforming on the surface

An osprey flying by

His mate sitting on the nest

The sun rose higher

I sat in solitude

Bathed in silence

Grateful for another day

The moment belonged to me

Feeling blessed

The silence was ruptured

A loud roar and crash

Trash cans being emptied

The truck engine growled

My meditation rudely ended

Time to face the day

Interact with other humans

Share my world for a while

Until the next sunrise

cloud crowds

Clouds were milling around late in the afternoon

Somebody had sent out a sunset party cloud invitation

It went viral and a cloud crowd soon gathered

As the sun went low the clouds all rushed west

Jostling to be the first clouds lit up

Look at me said a pink clad cloud

I am bathed in orange said another proud cloud

Rock music blared and cloudy beer flowed freely in the cloud crowd

Happy clouds partied on way after sunset

Some of the clouds dispersed to their cloud beds for the night

The hard core partying clouds stayed up late

Lets go chasing moonbeams said their cloud party host

They all hopped on a cloud train bound for the rising moon

The moon popped up and greeted all her cloud fans

The cloud crowd draped her in wispy thin clouds

Dancing with her across the cloudy night sky

Sometimes using thick clouds to block her out completely

In a game of nocturnal cloud hide and seek

Eventually the moon set on the horizon as the clouds whispered goodbye

The all night party reveling clouds soon fell asleep to dream of clouds

The healthy exercising clouds awoke before dawn

Jogging east with other clouds in readiness for the approaching sunrise

They sat in orderly cloud groups patiently awaiting for first light

Passing round plates of yoghurt and granola cloud breakfasts

Swapping stories about the most spectacular cloud lit sunrises in their cloud lifetimes

The sun came up bright orange right on cue as the clouds looked on in awe

The hippie clouds danced with flower headdresses and passed around magic cloud mushrooms

Spa music played over a sky of dreamy red and pink flash dance clouds

It only lasted a few cloud minutes but they were all ecstatic

Cloud cameras clicked and soon it was all uploaded to cloud YouTube and cloud instagram

Meanwhile the all night partying clouds slept through it all

Awaking at the height of the midday cloud sizzling sun

Nursing their cloudy hangovers with strong cloud coffee and stale donuts

Consulting their cloud social media to see what cloud fun they missed

The hippy clouds sought shelter from the midday cloud searing heat

The sky became overloaded with clouds which spelled big cloud trouble

Hells Angels clouds roared in from the north on black cloud Harleys

A rival Hells Angels cloud appeared to confront the newly arrived cloud outlaw gang

This was going to be a fight to the death territorial cloud battle

They clashed violently creating cloud sparks that flashed to the ground below

Huge thunderous cloud explosions boomed down from the menacing dark cloudy skies

All the other clouds hid in fear of collateral cloud damage

The sky cloud governor sent in the national guard clouds to break up the cloud infighting

Hells Angels clouds were arrested and put in cloud jails awaiting a cloud trial

All the other clouds were sent home in cloudy disgrace

Clear blue cloud free skies remained for the rest of the afternoon

Sunset that night was cloudless and unspectacular

just what I needed

I woke up at 5am with a terrible dry mouth

fortunately I had a glass of water on the nightstand

instant relief once my mouth was rehydrated

just what I needed

my mind was wide awake now

I crept downstairs to the kitchen

made myself a cup of hot green tea

just what I needed

it was pitch black outside

everything was quiet

the perfect time for some creative writing

just what I needed

I sat down at my computer

emptied my mind and let my imagination run free

the words flowed freely onto the screen

just what I needed

a few hours later dawn began to break

I stepped outside to watch the sunrise

the birds sang as the sun crept over the horizon

just what I needed

I checked the tire pressures on my bike

clipped in a couple of water bottles

set off for a 30 mile ride

just what I needed

I came home refreshed and invigorated

but somewhat grimy

I stepped into a hot steamy shower

just what I needed

it was still only 10.30am

I planned to achieve a whole lot more during the day

my first task was a short meditation session

just what I needed

At the end of a busy and very productive day

I paused to reflect on the miracle of life

I poured a glass of wine

just what I needed

I wondered if the wine was the cause of my early morning dry mouth

not willing to give up drinking wine in the evenings

I took a glass of water to bed

just what I needed

The forlorn dawn

Monday morning

constant yawning

long stretch

toothbrush fetch

showering quick

dressing slick

looking outside

hollow pride

boo hoo

no view

sunrise stolen

anxieties swollen

dense fog

mind agog

talking aloud

low cloud

forecasters fools

humidity rules

opening door

moisture galore

everything soaking

no joking

fog disdain

invisible rain

cushions wet

clouds sweat

foggy pollution

seeking solution

sunshine prayer

over there

orange glowing

fog going

sunshine winning

start grinning

fog disappearing

horizon reappearing

stolen dawn

returns forlorn

Living on the sun

Living on the sun

Is not much fun

Too hot to get anything done

You never get to put your coat on

Hell on sun is an excusable pun

No nighttime to come

Hot endless days for all not just some

Inhabitants always on the run

Sit down and you burn your bum

Shoot the breeze with your hot air gun

All the snow has melted on the ski run

No need to put the heat on

Impossible to give the cold shoulder to anyone

Every sandwich is made with a toasted bun

Hot affection to be won

Fresh chicken roasted on the chicken run

Not worth it in the long run

Your dreams will all come undone

I am not the only one

Who will never move to the sun

Certainly not in 2021

be it ink or electrons, they both transmit thoughts

I like to get up early and catch the sunrise

its my zen moment where I am alone with just my thoughts

soon after, I am at the computer writing something

which usually goes out electronically within an hour

I wonder if the readers appreciate the freshness of the writing

would something written last week be less appealing because it went stale?

before the age of typewriters and computers, writers wielded pen and ink over parchment

with no delete buttons or autocorrect,  it must have been a slow task to write a letter back then

were those inked writings more interesting to read than todays electronically processed words?

did the fact it took weeks or months to arrive make the writing mature like a fine wine?

treasured letters were carefully wrapped in ribbons stored in a shoe box under the bed

to be retrieved on cold dark winters nights and read again by candle light

I doubt your computer has a file named shoe box for stored writings

its unlikely that you read texts more than a day old

with no crossed out ink on your screen giving clues how hard it was to write

no handwriting style to admire and no wax seal to authenticate

just a sterile text or email to click open

however, the processes of writing and transmission do not matter at all

be it ink pen, letters in the mail, emails, texts or a blog

they all magically place my thoughts inside your mind

Carry it well

On this beautiful day

The sun came up

Orange rays of light painted the clouds

Birds lined up to watch

A light breeze gifted playful ripples on the bay

The low sun lit up the ripples with flashes of white light

The fairies were dancing on the water again

Relaxing music filled our home

We prepared our minds and bodies for a day of challenges

Tapping into the positive energy of the sunrise

Giving thanks for being healthy in both body and mind

Wondering why the same world can be so different for others

Thinking back to my time as a first responder

Remembering the day we rescued a 19 year old girl from a heroin overdose

Her heroin addict roommate had raised the alarm

She had stopped breathing when we arrived

We brought her back to life with drugs and oxygen

She had just been released from rehab

Her world was cheap hotels and selling her body for drugs

She probably overdosed again

One day the sun will rise after she had taken her last breath

Gentle music will be filling our home when the hotel housemaid discovers her dead

The fairies will dance on the bay during her autopsy

Birds will sing while her parents grieve at her funeral

We all share the same light from the sun

I choose to see the beauty it brings

Unfortunately some are unable to see what I see

Either through bad fortune or bad decisions

They see a world full of struggle and despair

The non-judgmental sun comes up every morning

He brings you your light

Carry it well
