the ultimate journey

There are many paths to chose from in life

but very few markers or or maps to consult

parents and mentors can give you guidance

ultimately its up to you to navigate on your own

there will be dangerous obstacles to overcome

temptations abound for taking wrong turns

sometimes you will make mistakes

making U turns to get back on the right track

excuse me am I on the path to success

will you show me the way to utopia

can I follow you on the road to happiness

how do I get on that gravy train

education is a great navigation tool

not just learning facts and figures

for when you are at a dangerous crossroads

ethics and moral values will be your guides

sometimes the path gets steep and rocky

littered with failures and those who cling to you

pulling you in all directions and jumping on your back

offering you hedonistic rides to a non-existent paradise

does that sign say this way to riches without hard work

will I be seen as a failure if I give up now

this place has an evil smell

oh no I have been down this bad road before

the road seems never ending

indeed it will continue as a lifelong journey

the sweetest moments are the unplanned pauses

to smell the roses and bathe in the glorious scenery

when you have taken the right path and reached your goals

you can look back and figure out how you got there

Old flames never die -part 3

she looked over and saw his clothes were gone

confirming her worst fears

she looked up at the ceiling at wept

why was I so stupid she sobbed

Mark walked in with a Starbucks breakfast

why on earth are you crying Angie

he held he close as she fought to regain her composure

I am sorry she blurted its all very emotional for me

how sweet of you to remember how I like my coffee said Angie

I remember everything about you said Mark

I committed all the things we did to memory

it feels like we have always been together in my mind

Angie looked into his deep blue eyes

his features were still sharp

he was in good shape and obviously took good care of himself

she pulled him close for a long passionate kiss

I have to run a few errands this morning said Mark

would you like to have lunch down at the yacht club

I can swing by and pick you up at noon

that would be lovely replied Angie

after Mark left she took a long soak in the tub

spending the rest of the morning on her nails and hair

picking out a nice dress

something classy and eye catching

he picked her up at noon on the dot

she remembered he was always so punctual

do you still have that small sailing boat she asked

no I exchanged it for something more practical said Mark

he parked at the yacht club and they walked towards the marina

he led her to the biggest yacht she had ever seen

the crew had lined up to greet them

the captain announced that lunch will be served on the upper deck

Abi takes her morning walk – Part 5

Abi became very depressed after losing her baby

she could not focus on her work

spending a lot of time at home alone

Andrew was frequently away on business trips

Abi took her morning walk before writing in her diary

six months since losing my baby and still no sign of the black cat

later that afternoon a scratching noise caught her attention

she opened the door to find the black cat sitting on the step

What do you want she asked the cat

knowing that the cat understood and would communicate back

the cat ran towards the street and then paused to look back

so you want me to follow you said Abi

will this be a long or short walk she asked the cat

the cat immediately lay down outstretched

oh I see this will be a long walk said Abi who went inside to get her coat

the cat led her into town and stopped in a parking lot

what am I looking for asked Abi

the cat lifted a paw and pointed to a vehicle

Abi recognized Andrews car

the cat started to move again and Abi followed

a few blocks away the cat sat down in front of Judiths house

Abi kept out of sight and sent Andrew a text

she saw him in the window picking up his phone

the reply said working late tonight don’t wait up for me

Abi yelled at the cat take me to see Gail now

the cat took her to a large house nearby

Gail answered the door saying I have been worried about you

come inside and lets talk

Abi told Gail she thought she lived in the woods

I only visit there to talk with the animals laughed Gail

please tell me what I should do about Andrew cried Abi

Gail hugged her whispering we will let the black cat deal with that situation

Wilderness adventure

Photo by Sagui Andrea on Pexels.com

he walked briskly

leaning into the blustery cold wind

his body tensed as the cold penetrated his thin jacket

his face and exposed ears were stinging

his empty stomach growled

more than 2 days since his last meal

but sheltering from the cold was his priority

food would have to come later

the terrain was rough

but he measured every step

an injury could be fatal here

survival requires intense focus

he spotted a structure ahead

visualizing a night of shelter

it was an abandoned shack

part of the roof remained

gathering wood for a fire

nature had preserved a few dry timbers

soon a fire was glowing in a corner

taking care not to burn his numbed limbs

anchor points for a hammock

would keep his body off the cold damp floor

sleep was calling

but his belly ached for food

leaving the fire well stacked

he found a boggy patch of ground nearby

pulling up plants with starchy roots

a simple meal quickly prepared

cold and hunger subsided

he slept soundly

a noise startled him

a black bear lunged toward him

he rolled from the hammock

pulling a knife from his belt

three stabs into the bear’s flesh

saved him from certain death

the bear retreated

remaining still for a moment

adrenalin replaced by intense pain

deep wounds bleeding heavily

cutting down the hammock

wrapping the fabric around his abdomen

securing it with string

blood soaked through

too weak to travel

he had to summon help

building a fire outside

sending up smoke signals

nobody came that day

he stayed up all night

keeping the fire burning

another day of smoke signals

he drifted off late in the afternoon

woken by a helicopter above

a voice told him to lay face down

he was soon handcuffed

airlifted to hospital

with a police guard

patched up and returned to prison

plotting his next escape
