The music changes throughout the day

We have music piped into every room at home

Waking up to something lively

Usually a 70’s complication

Stevie Wonder fills the air

Foot tapping to Earth Wide and Fire

Munching breakfast to Marvin Gaye

After breakfast a change of mood

Writing to relaxing morning jazz

Lunch time with the 80’s

Talking Heads while prepping food

A club sandwich with Culture Club

Hot tea with the Thomson Twins

Dunk a cookie with Duran Duran

Time to Rev it up while cleaning the house

Rocking the floor mop to ZZ Top

Deafening vacuuming with Def Leppard

Make your bed with the Beatles

Clapton makes cleaning toilets fun

Housework is done and its time to chill

Relaxing Spa music while reading

DIY projects go faster with British Invasion bands

Sawing wood while the Who blast away

Hammering nails with the Stones

Painting walls Manfred Mann

Yard work with the Yard birds

Mid afternoon break with country music

Cheryl Crow joins for afternoon tea

Reminding me that all I want to do is have some fun

Run to the store for errands with Kenny Rogers

Ride back with Merl Haggard

Tammy Wynette helps restock the fridge

Cooking dinner with Glen Campbell

Dinner is served with some cool jazz

Set an extra dinner place for Frank Sinatra

Michael Buble for dessert

David Bowie helps to clean the dishes

Evening jazz rounds off the day

Go to sleep in silence

Marsh Disco

A stiff breeze over the bay this morning

Occasional gusts initiate the wind chimes in our yard

Their gentle notes carried along by the wind

The reflective chime sail is the marsh disco ball

Giving the signal that the marsh disco is now open

Ripples on the bay speed over the surface

Fast moving dancers skidding across the floor

Hitting the marsh with a rhythmic slapping spray

Imitating a drunk disco dancer spilling his drink

The trees stand firm and just rock to the music

Leaves flickering remind me of sequin clad twirling disco dancers

Tree limbs bounce up and down doing the mosh pit pogo

Tree tops sway mimicking an aging arthritic hippie disco dancer

Her feet firmly planted on the floor

Fluorescent leg warmers hide her skinny limbs

Wrinkled smile glued to her over tanned and over make up well travelled face

The marsh grasses lurch about erratically in all directions

Playing the parts of young crazy acrobatic disco dancers

Desperately trying to outmoonwalk each other

Inhibitions of youth suppressed by cheap booze and fake pills

Deer cross the marsh disco dance floor cautiously

Pausing to look and listen for danger with nostrils flared into the breeze

Sniffing for any trace of predatory human disco dancer scent

Seemingly oblivious of the disco around them

But a wagging white tail confirms they are dancing too

An eagle soars over the marsh disco flapping his wings to the slow beat

Mr Owl sits in a tree surveying the marsh disco below

He is a wall flower watching all the fun while motionless

Until he picks up the beat and his head does the twist

Suddenly the wind drops and the chimes go silent

Everybody stops dancing instantly

The marsh disco is done for now

Neighbors briefly make eye contact

Sobering up quickly from the marsh disco intoxication

Wondering if they looked silly while they were marsh disco dancing

Nervously looking down at their own feet to avoid further eye contact

Praying for the next song to play soon

The silent pause in the marsh disco seems eternal

Marsh feet start shuffling side to side in anticipation

Suddenly the wind chimes sound again bringing smiles to all the marsh faces

And the whole marsh is once more dancing at the marsh disco

The drum beat

the drum beat is mellow and groovy

cool jazz lounge

foot tapping and head nodding

slipping into the mood

the drum beat is loud and steady

a parade

bright costumes and dancers

swaying to the rhythm

the drum beat is fast and furious

rock concert

sounds amplified to painful levels

possessed teenagers leaping

the drum beat is very slow

military funeral

a young life extinguished

weeping wife and children

the drum beat is steady but faint

beating heart

body pressed tight against you

feeling the rhythm of love

Mystery DJ

I like listening to music

Both recorded and live

Playlists are so cool

You can pick one to suit your mood

Some mellow jazz in the morning

Lively pop in the day

Rock n roll your afternoon away

A few golden oldies before bedtime

There is however one big problem

When I stop listening to music

There is always a song still playing

On a constant loop in my head

Its not always the same song

Usually something I listened to recently

These earworms can be annoying

I find the only cure

Is to play some different music

To drown them out

Peace at last

Until the music source stops

Then the mystery DJ in my head

Selects another song to play

He never consults me

Nor does he listen to my suggestions

His most recent earworm song

Is playing in my head right now

Lovely Day by Bill Withers

I used to like that song

But now I am totally done with it

Time to consult Mr Spotify

Drown out Bill Withers for good

While the DJ in my head listens along

And unilaterally selects a future earworm

I have tried researching for a cure

As yet there is no earworm powder treatment on the market

But the earworm is not the source of the problem

Its that mystery DJ in my head

I am going to sneak up on him

While he is distracted listening to my music

And smash his turntable

Then every day will certainly be A Lovely Day
