foggy*

I woke up in a fog

my mind was groggy and dazed

it was foggy outside

my body was in phase with the weather

green tea did not clear my head

the fog stayed thick outside

was the fog leaking out of my head

or leaking in from the fields outside

maybe I was dehydrated  from drinking wine

or not enough sleep

my overloaded brain needed a rest

how long would all this last I wondered

the sun started to burn off the fog

but my head remained foggy all day

like I was drugged or poisoned with a toxin

I gave up thinking because it was too painful

my body was in low energy mode

no point in strenuous exercise

this had to be a day of rest

despite extra hydration I felt foggy throughout the entire day

the next day my head was clear when I woke up

my energy levels were back to normal

I tackled the day with vigor

taxing my body and my brain really hard

then a thought struck me

how awful to be foggy all the time

to have you mind and body in a permanent foggy straitjacket

while others around you live large with a clear head

We often take our health for granted

a short sharp aberration reminds you

be grateful for good health

have compassion for those less fortunate

avoid the fog

Clever stuff this fog

It was a foggy morning

Dense fog in all directions

No sunrise today

Not even a hint of the sun

A dull dreary uniform grey blanket covering everything

No raindrops but the ground was soaked

Water leaking from the fog

Everything was super quiet

No traffic sounds

The birds stopped singing

I opened the door wide

Expecting the fog to pour into the house

It stayed outside

Refusing to enter in fear of captivity

I went outside to capture some fog

Spooning it into a jar

Screwing the lid on tight

Labeling the jar with the date

Placing it on a shelf

I went back outside for a walk

Almost bumping into things

I soon got lost in the fog

Found my way home by chance

Decided to go back to bed for a few hours

When I woke up the fog had all gone

My view had returned

The sun was bright in the sky

I was relieved and wondering where it all went

Was the fog in another neighborhood now

Creating panic and slowing down traffic

I went to check on my captive fog in the jar

The lid was still tight

But it was all clear inside

The fog had somehow escaped

Perhaps they sent in foggy commandoes to rescue my prisoners

a slow motion foggy time warp

dense fog stealthily crept over the marsh

a thick grey mist blanket wrapped around every tree

stealing away my view of the bay

no morning sunrise spectacle today

we are living in a ground hugging cloud

everything outside is saturated

decorating the spider web with silver beads

his once invisible traps now fully exposed

the spider will go hungry today

the birds stopped singing in protest

the silence is eerie

no watermen on the bay

crab pot harvesting is on hold

until the warming sun burns through the cool fog

there is nothing to do but wait

but the lingering fog is slowing down time

stalling the arrival of the sun

the hands on the clock are hardly moving at all

I am stuck in a slow motion foggy time warp

Pea soup and tea lattes

I woke up to dense fog today

it reminded me of English weather

back in the days when coal was burned

in homes factories and power stations

the smoke from burned coal

would react with the fog

to create a dense blanket called smog

it was real health hazard

many people suffered respiratory distress

driving was very dangerous

as visibility was severely reduced

multiple pile ups were common

I remember walking to school in the smog

with a scarf over my face

struggling to see across the road

suffering smog induced asthma attacks

it was particularly bad in cities

the fog also trapped vehicle emissions

it could hang around for days

you could easily get lost in it

George Gershwin wrote a song about it

a foggy day in London town

some perceived foggy days as romantic

describing them as pea soupers

during the great London smog of 1952

more than 10,000 people died

and many more got sick

it was a huge environmental disaster

eventually the government woke up

coal burning was gradually fazed out

smog has since become less dense

Starbucks now sell tea lattes called London fog

The forlorn dawn

Monday morning

constant yawning

long stretch

toothbrush fetch

showering quick

dressing slick

looking outside

hollow pride

boo hoo

no view

sunrise stolen

anxieties swollen

dense fog

mind agog

talking aloud

low cloud

forecasters fools

humidity rules

opening door

moisture galore

everything soaking

no joking

fog disdain

invisible rain

cushions wet

clouds sweat

foggy pollution

seeking solution

sunshine prayer

over there

orange glowing

fog going

sunshine winning

start grinning

fog disappearing

horizon reappearing

stolen dawn

returns forlorn
