Bad medicine

Photo by Ketut Subiyanto on Pexels.com

I went to the gym

With a workout in mind

I picked up a medicine ball

It was so heavy

Tried to hold it away from me

But I dropped it

Nearly broke my foot

Medicine ball

What a stupid name

For a foot killer ball

Bad medicine ball

Bad medicine

Monday Monday

Monday Monday

Can still be a fun day

Monday Monday

Closer to the weekend

Than yesterday

Monday Monday

Go for a run day

Bake in the sun day

Monday Monday

Its a deal done day

Spend a large sum day

Have friends come day

Monday Monday

Sip a coke with rum day

Be a beach bum day

Dream of it some day

Monday Monday

Lottery you won day

Put your best clothes on day

I do love a Monday

A poetic apology

Guru Nanak Prophet and poet

What is the difference between a poet and a prophet

If you ask a wise man he might say

Poets have special powers of imagination and expression

Prophets utter divinely inspired revelations

Poets might give you this kind of answer

Prophets minus phrs equals poet

Phrs is the Icelandic word for fart

So if you fart on a Icelandic poet he becomes a prophet

When a prophet makes a prediction

You may be inclined to take it seriously

The predictions of a poet however

Are nothing more than pure fantasy

Those of you who already googled the word phrs are probably feeling deflated

I am sorry if my poetry is not prophetic enough for you

I truly have no credentials to make divine revelations

Have a very poetic day

Scratch poetry

I am trying to figure out

How to make poetry scratch cards

Sort of like lottery tickets

Except with writing under the silver paint

Buy a card and win a poem every time

More fun than reading numbers

That tell you you just lost again

It would have to be a short piece of prose

Nobody wants to scratch a novel sized poem

Even better would be a multi layer card

Scratch off the top layer for the first poem

Then scratch that away to reveal another poem

The poetic equivalent of the Russian doll

That has a doll inside every doll

The final scratch reveals a blank page

So you can write your own poem

Then you can paint over it

Give it as a gift to somebody special

What a great way to surprise folks

With witty two liners

Hidden under the scratch paint

You did not win the lottery

But you won my heart

…………………………………..

Thank you for scratching me

It itched a lot

…………………………………..

I dare you to resist scratching the second line

I knew you would do it

…………………………………………..

This message will self destruct

Fifteen seconds after scratching

………………………………….

If you scratch mine

I will scratch yours

………………………………….

I think I am falling in love with y….

Scratch that

Bad romance

Last dance

Parting hug

Apathetic shrug

Arriving home

All alone

Pouring drink

Long think

Grab phone

Fingers roam

Desperation calling

Expectations falling

Unexpected hellos

Invitation follows

Opening door

Lips explore

Kisses accepted

Relationship resurrected

Its still spring in Maryland

Its still spring in Maryland

A few summer teasing days came in April

But in mid May is still cool, rainy and windy

Warmer weather will arrive around Mid June

Until then summer is just an illusion

Its still spring in Maryland

We will have a Memorial day cookout

As the official start of summer

But it might be a cool dreary day

As we anticipate warmer days

Its still spring in Maryland

The marsh grasses have finally turned green

Birds have already nested

Shrubs are starting to grow

No flowers in bloom yet

Its still spring in Maryland

Pools are not open yet

Because the water is still cold

They will look inviting by early June

Only the brave or foolish will swim then

Its still spring in Maryland

Rabbits are eating all the new shoots in our garden

Deer are stripping fresh leaves from our trees

Our landscaping is an endless buffet for wildlife

They never say thanks or leave a tip

Its still spring in Maryland

Watermen have put out their crab pots

I see they are not catching much now

The water is not warm enough yet

Come summer there will be bumper harvests

Its still spring in Maryland

Looking forward to the summer

Long bike rides down empty country lanes

Lazy days by the pool

Sunset cruises with wine and jazz

Its still spring in Maryland

We are busy getting ready for summer

Soon to be enjoying those long hot days

Having fun with friends and family

Making memories of Maryland spring, summer and fall

Another year goes by

Getting older

Aging fast

Joints aching

Hearing fading

Friends passing

No surrender

Still active

Exercise daily

Bike riding

Long walks

Staying healthy

Working hard

Multiple projects

Fixing stuff

Feeling young

Mind alert

Writing poetry

Memories fresh

Visited often

Travel plans

Visit family

Maintain friendships

Forever curious

Always learning

Happy birthday

To me

Many more

To come

Where are my car keys?

Did I close the garage door?

I don’t remember taking my pills

did somebody move my car keys?

forgotten where I parked the car!

yes we all forget stuff like this

How can we avoid repeating these memory lapses. Well they are not really memory lapses, when doing things automatically you you hardly need to think about them. For example your breathing is controlled by your brain but do you remember when you last took a breath, probably not because you did it automatically without paying attention.

When you drive out of the garage, you most likely hit the door remote while driving off and it becomes an automatic action like any other part of your driving. So try this for a change, put a sticker or some kind of mark halfway down your garage door.  Next time you back out of the garage,  stop the car and put it in park before you hit the door remote.  Don’t move the car until your eyes make firm contact with that mark on you garage door.  Once you repeat this routine a few times it will become automatic and you will never have to turn back to check if its closed.

Organize your medication into a box with days of the week compartments. Yes thats what old people do but they are old for a reason, they still remember to take their daily medication.

Designate a place at home for your keys: a bowl by the front door, a drawer or a hook on the wall. Always put the key in the same place each time you enter the house. Most cars now have a push start so your car key can stay in your pocket or purse. Don’t leave them loose, fasten them to your purse or belt with a clip or carabina.

When you park in an unfamiliar place like a mall or airport parking, write down the row number on the parking ticket or take a photo with your phone. Some phones will help you find your parked car with GPS tracking apps.  Hey where did I put my phone?

Gourmet word dishes

Poetry is just like cooking

Instead of a kitchen you might use an office

Instead of a stove you can use pen and paper or a computer

But the steps are just the same:

Inspiration

Gather ingredients

Preparation

Cook

Assemble

Serve

I get my poetry inspiration by observing the world around me or from memories of my experiences

I gather my poetry chef’s thoughts into a few words that describe something I want to write about

I sit down with my computer and prepare myself for writing

I add more words and start the word cooking process. I follow no recipe but I do add and subtract words until my alphabet soup  tastes just right

Then I assemble my poetry dish by putting all the words onto a computer screen plate and I start editing until its fit to be eaten by my hungry readers

I serve my dish of poetry by posting my finished plate of words on the Cheeky Monkey website

Its the best poetry restaurant that I know

Lots of famous people eat their fresh daily poem there

There is even a take away service providing you more than 600 dishes of previously served gourmet word dishes

Bon Apetit!
