Float days are fun

its good to have plans

establish milestones and goals

set objectives to meet them

diligently work on tasks towards your goals

pause when you have reached a big milestone

bathe in the glory of achievements

but only celebrate for a short while

then get back to working on tasks

however, there will be some days when you can’t seem to focus

maybe your energy level is low

or you just can’t get motivated

if you have the flexibility, give yourself a day off

declare a float day

a day to float around doing almost nothing

turn your phone off and stay off the grid for a day

let your mind float too

keep it empty of worries about things to be done

let your thoughts float freely

dream a while as you are floating

at the end of your float day, pause to review your plans

determine if they are taking you where you want to go

adjust your plans and get back on task

it’s not healthy to be running full steam ahead all the time

you can still get there with a bit of floating now and again

float days are fun

Reflections of life and dreams

I had a dream last night

blue skies and green fields

fluffy white clouds painted in the sky

long hot summer days with cool nights

butterflies dancing over flowers

birds singing and soaring in the breeze

soothing music filled my ears

a never ending long cold beverage at my side

laughing with friends

it was a good dream

I woke up to see blue skies, fluffy white clouds and green fields

it was the start of a long hot summer day

the birds were singing

jazz music was playing

the fridge was fully stocked with cold beverages

friends were on the way over

dreams are often a reflection of your life

especially when you are just living the dream

The car wreck**

She saw him driving too fast on a twisty road, the car was lurching at every turn.  The turns got tighter the car spun out of control and smashed into another vehicle. A sickening sound of metal crushing and glass exploding mixed with a human cry and then……  She woke up in a cold sweat with her heart pounding. She dared her hand to reach out in the darkness and explore beside her in the bed. A warm sleeping body beside her calmed her anxiety, it was just a bad dream.  She decided not to wake him, no point in dragging him from a nice dream just to tell him she had a nightmare. 4am blinked from the clock and she settled down again to sleep. Her body tried to relax but her mind was still racing from the horrific images.  She tried to think of soothing things, honeymoon memories at the beach, sensual massages at the spa, sipping cocktails by the pool.  Each time she let an image flow in the screen of her mind somebody flipped the channel back to a blood splattered wreckage.  Now she saw first responders cutting away the twisted metal from a dying man.  How can a dream continue while I am awake she asked herself.   She decided to get up and keep her eyes open.  The reality of her surroundings will shut out the unwelcome thoughts. She went downstairs and made a cup of tea then slumped in her favorite chair in front of the TV.  She scanned the channels and found mostly infomercials.  Insomniacs must spend a fortune on useless gadgets she thought.  Flick flick –magic weight loss powder, flick flick — vegetable peeler will make your life complete, flick flick–  folding ladder will let you escape from your burning inferno bedroom, flick flick news flash—–  responders rush to horrific car crash.  She saw exactly the same image as her dream, an identical car in the same place. A limp body is put into an ambulance.  “It cannot be” she screams. She rushed upstairs to check on her loved one but the only thing under the covers is the pair of pillows she hugs when he is away.  She runs back downstairs and catches the end of the broadcast.  “police say the driver was taken to hospital in a critical condition”. She is convinced that the car in her dream and on the news is her husband’s.  She decides to phone the hospital, as she picks up the phone she sees the outside security light flash on.  A police car is outside and a uniformed figure is walking up the driveway.  She knows this must be bad news. “please god no, don’t let this happen…..”.  The doorbell rang loudly, she froze in fear.  A voice called out “good morning darling”  Her mind was confused. ” Did you sleep well?  She rolled over and saw her husband holding a breakfast tray.  It was all a big bad dream.  She tried to mask her heart pounding by stretching and yawning.  She kissed him sweetly, no need for his good deed to be disrupted by her bad dream experiences.   She sat up as he got into bed with their breakfast feast.  Pouring the tea into a welcome mug she thanked god for not taking him.  She listened to his sexy voice telling him he loved her,  she smiled and looked into his eyes.   He smiled back and said to her  “I had this awful dream last night honey,  you were in a bad car wreck and the police came here to tell me.. Hey watch out you are spilling that tea…..”

Retail therapy dreams

He wakes early

Before dawn breaks

No alarm sounds

Except in his head

Dressing fast

Grabbing his camera

Outside air tastes good

Camera and tripod assembled

Anticipation, physics and beauty

The sun will rise

At a precise known time

But the colors are dictated by nature

Clouds might be illuminated

Or can block off the sun

Wind changes the water

From a mirror to a raging sea

The earth spins

Light bathes the dark sky

Clouds tinted orange

Still water is his reflective canvas

Time to capture images

Camera remote fires rapidly

In an empty theatre

Only witnessed by him and the birds

Tidal waves of colors flood the sky

Diamond flash of sun erupts center stage

This opera performs daily

Avian choir sings

More camera clicks

Transient images captured

On a silicone chip

To be engraved in his mind

Sun climbs higher

Sunrise is over

He goes inside

Climbs back in bed

She sleeps soundly

He downloads images

Post processing

Laptop keyboard clicks

Picks out one shot

She wakes bleary eyed

Staring briefly at his screen

A smile confirms

Sunrise is now in her mind’s eye

She sleeps more

Dreaming of retail therapy

Lunch with girlfriends

The alarm clock sounds

Arms swinging to kill it

“I hate mornings” she bleats

No memory of sunrise in her mind

He tries to understand why

Life Brings daily wonders

Until death

He prayed for at least one more sunrise

She went shopping

Dream controller**

My memory stretches back over sixty years

I rarely think of childhood days while awake

But when sleeping I am a kid again

Happily playing games in a schoolyard that no longer exists

Hard to remember that first day of school

Big buildings and noisy playgrounds

details are filed somewhere in my head

Teachers voices so clear in my dreams

I like to walk on beaches

Roaring waves fill my ears

Those teenage years living by the sea

Can only be relived vividly during slumber

Two score and ten since my first love

Her sweet smiling face so close in my dreams

Filling my heart with joy and passion

I dare not ask if still utter her name in my sleep

My university degree was forty five years ago

I have dreams about those final exams

Waking in a cold sweat of worry

Why does my mind go back there at night

Sixty years supporting Liverpool Football Club

Early days watching games in packed stadiums

Today’s players fill my wide screen TV

I score the winning goal nightly in bed

As a boy I dreamed of racing cars

In my twenties I owned a racing mini cooper

I won a race in 1980

I frequently see that checkered flag waving at 3 AM

While sleeping last night I held a new born baby girl

Watching her first breath in awe

She is a grown woman now

With her own baby

My son is living the music city dream

Performing in Nashville

He dreams of being a rock star

He is still a happy playing five year old boy in my dreams

More than thirty years since my father passed

His face and Scottish brogue are fond memories

We still have great conversations today

Interrupted so rudely by my alarm clock

Over twenty years since losing my mother

Her love lives on in my heart

In troubled times she visits me

Those dreams more real than the present

It’s so much fun to wake up

Next to the girl of your dreams

Recounting the adventures of the night we just had

That she did not know of

I am living my dream life now

Filling my days with what I want

Having adventures that were once only dreams

Surrendering my nighttime thoughts to the dream controller

Float Your Dream Boats

Your body is mostly water

It moves stuff around inside you

Providing nutrients to cells

Delivering energy to your muscles

Lubricating your moving parts

Sending armies to fight off unwelcome invaders

Flushing out dangerous toxins

Influenced by the sun and moon

Your internal tides ebb and flow

Learn to live in harmony with them

Still waters rest inside you when you are calm

Internal storms rage when you get angry

Your water flows freely when you are happy

Your pipes may freeze up if you become sad

Get to know the water inside you

Build a beautiful lake in your mind

Watch the sunrise over your lake

Adventure and discover amazing distant shores

Free dive to great depths

Float your dream boats

Watch them converge
