Feet

Feet are such amazing things

Essential for standing walking or running

Entertain us through sports and ballet

Tirelessly take us on walks

Push pedals around on bike rides

Climb stairs and mountains

Make your car stop and start

Contain 26 bones

Hidden inside a shoe most of the time

Adorned and painted by ladies

A fetish for some

A measuring tool

Vote with them

Leave prints on a beach

Ticklish for some

Essential massage focus for others

Follow a mostly right-side dominance rule

Taken for granted by us most of the time

Thank your feet

Care for them

Fabulous feet

I will never catch a white marlin in my pool

it was a day of contrasts

we spent the afternoon in Ocean City

watching the boats in the White Marlin Open

they leave around 4 am

fishing the canyons 100 miles offshore

returning around 5pm to the crowded harbor

we chatted to a crew having a rest day

learning of their adventures and dreams to win

big crowds gathered for the weigh-in

a 79.5-pound white marlin took the leading spot

happy faces on the angler and the entire crew

if unbeaten it will bring a $1.4M prize

a big reward for a hard day on the water

we came home and relaxed in the pool

playing chill music and floating

it was good to be away from the crowds

I thought about the 400-plus boats out there

being tossed around all-day

hoping to catch the big money fish

but mostly coming back tired and empty-handed

they will probably come back next year and try again

good luck to all who chase their dreams

I floated around sipping a cold beer and briefly thought about fishing for a white marlin

I will never catch a white marlin in my pool

but that’s fine by me

I feel blessed to be living such a great life

my dreams chase me now

Ollie and Vinnie – part 2

Ollie

Ollie spent the afternoon fishing

he sat in the dead tree with his fish

he kept looking around between bites

almost expecting Vinnie to appear

but Vinnie and his gang never showed up

they had learned their lesson

Ollie chirped in happiness

hoping to attract a mate

no lady ospreys showed up

Ollie sat alone on his perch until sunset

he is the king of the bay

as long as Eddie the eagle stays away

Ollie and Vinnie

osprey shielding a fish from a vulture

Ollie the osprey was cruising over the bay

soaring high with his eagle-like eyes

he spotted a fish near the surface

dive dive dive and a big splash

he rose up with a nice fish in his claws

Ollie landed on the branch of a tall dead tree

perched on one foot with the fish in his other claw

the fish was still wriggling but his fate was doomed

Ollie spotted Vinnie the Vulture gliding by

Oh no not him thought Ollie

Vinnie circled round a few times and landed near Ollie

Ollie said nothing and spread his wings downward to hide the fish

nice fish you caught there Ollie said Vinnie

bugger off! said Ollie, go find yourself some nasty roadkill to eat

Look said Vinnie, me and the boys can protect you

we will scare all the other ospreys away

so you can have sole rights over fishing in this bay

all you have to do is slip us a fish or two every day

you have been watching too many gangster movies said Ollie

Vinnie decided to turn up the heat

look Ollie, we know your favorite roosting places

we can have our cousins fly over and fill them up

either you cooperate or you will have nowhere to roost around here

Ollie started to laugh, I am not scared of you or your stupid cousins

Vinnie hopped down closer and made a lunge for Ollie’s fish

Ollie rolled away and took off holding his fish tightly

Vinnie stayed on the branch and shrugged

I guess I won’t be eating his fish today

Ollie circled back and soared over the dead tree

Vinnie looked up and assumed he had a change of mind

perhaps he was coming back to give up his fish

Ollie swooped down low over the tree

he did not land but instead made a low fly-by

with perfect timing, he pooped on Vinnie’s head

Vinnie winced and flew away screaming Mommy!

look what Ollie just did to me!

Ollie came back to the tree and landed

he finished his fish with a huge grin

Vinnie and his gang never bothered Ollie again

Cinquain poetry

Photo by Thought Catalog on Pexels.com

I stumbled upon cinquain poetry.

Five lines with the following rules;

The first line is one word which is the title of the poem.

The second line contains two words which are adjectives that describe the title.

The third line has three words that tell the reader more about the subject of the poem or show action.  Many times these words are gerunds that end with “ing.”

The fourth line has four words that show emotions about the subject of the poem and may be individual words or a phrase.

The fifth line is one word that is a synonym of the title or is very similar to it.

Example(not mine)

Strong, beautiful

Imposing, protecting, watching

Symbolizes wealth and power

Jolly Old England

Jolly old England was once my home

Warm beer and cloudy skies

Always carry an umbrella

If it’s not raining now

It will soon be raining

Put the kettle on for tea

Small houses and small cars

Small roads and small towns

Friendly pubs on every corner

A true island mentality

Briefly married to Europe

Now messily divorced

Europeans are again officially foreigners

Bathed in history but frozen in time

Fiercely traditional and sentimental

Put the kettle on for tea

Take a walk in the countryside

Find a nice cafe for tea and cake

Go home and put the kettle on for tea

Watch the football on TV

Swallow your daily dose of TV soap opera

Mow your lawn on Sundays

Wash your car in your driveway

Everybody likes DIY

Put the kettle on for tea

No need for health insurance

Healthcare is free

But you pay for it with taxes

Summers are short but treasured

Cricket matches on the village green

We invented the game

But rarely beat other counties

Stop playing to drink tea at 4pm

Stop playing when it rains

Stop playing when its too cloudy

Do cricket matches ever end

Last orders at the pub

Fish and chips on the way home

Put the kettle on for tea

God save the queen

My feet

My feet……..

my best assets

Take me anywhere

Escape from danger

Bring me home

Dance to music

Pedal my bike

Keep me vertical

never ever complain

Kicked many footballs

Scored some goals

Footsie with cuties

Hide in shoes

Sleep naked nightly

Walk every day

Like resting up

Never get smelly

Only once pedicured

Crossed when resting

Don’t like tickling

Run like crazy

Help me swim

Hide in socks

Fill my boots

Paddle in sea

Dive in first

Big size tens

his tea went cold

Photo by Skyler Ewing on Pexels.com

the sun came up on a beautiful summer morning

he watched the spectacle from his bedroom

his wife slept soundly

she wore an eye pillow to prevent light waking her

he got up, moving slowly to not disturb her

hot tea was his priority

taking his tea out to the deck so he could look over the water

ospreys were flying in the bay

watching the ospreys nest building

laying twigs on a platform in the bay

the couple worked in relays

relentlessly adding more to the nest

some of the twigs fell into the water

they were undeterred

they kept building in relays

flying back to a tree on the waterline

landing on a fixed branch

then taking off and ripping it off the tree

sometimes the branches were really big

the bird could hardly fly with it

but they kept on going

the instinct to reproduce is intense

they wanted to make a nest

they wanted to raise babies

his thoughts wandered

he went back inside the bedroom

gently arousing his wife with a kiss

“it’s too early in the morning” she screamed

she rolled over and buried her face in the covers

he went back outside to watch the nest building

his tea was cold

the ospreys continued to nest-build

he threw away the cold tea

made another hot cup

went inside to watch sports on TV

he put the TV on max volume

soon after she started to text

“turn it down”

he turned off the TV

went for a walk

He met a beautiful lady walking

they got talking about ospreys

he never returned home

the ospreys raised a family

His tea never went cold again

Just another day

Another sunrise

Just another day

People waking

Bleary-eyed

Rushing to work

Oblivious of nature

Consumed by consumerism

Blinded by television

Deafened by commercials

Accepting corporate lobotomy

Chasing the next dollar

There are some who:

Stop to look

Ponder in awe

Savor the moment

Appreciate the beauty

Feel the love

Embrace the joy

Experience simple pleasures

Listen to music

Appreciate art

Make intelligent conversations

Share genuine feelings

Nibble real chocolate

Sip fine wines

Give strong hugs

Love their friends

Know what matters

Volunteer their time

Care for nature

Talk to animals

Leave a legacy
