pre-dawn bayside worship

she stepped out into the crisp early morning spring air

birds singing the dawn chorus to greet her

the pale blue sky had been delicately painted onto the calm waters of the bay

the marsh was starting to shed its brown winter coat and change into green for the summer

the sun was not up but the cloudy eastern sky was orange ablaze in anticipation

a lone waterman glided over the mirror like surface

speeding towards crab pots with hopes of a bumper catch

rhythmically flowing ripples ran from his boat to infinity

carving up the perfectly reflected sky painting into a torn canvas

when the boat was well gone and the ripples were just a gentle swell

the sky began to gently repaint itself on the water

she treasured these still moments that touched her soul

she loved way the bay and the marsh gifted her changing portraits

the pre-dawn era was brief but seemed never ending

the sun burst over the horizon with enthusiastic abandon

dormant still air was nudged into movement by the warming sun

gentle breezes began a whispering dance over the bay wiping out the reflected sky

she took one last breath of the intoxicating morning air before going inside

with a gracious thank you she she sealed the images in her mind

it was time to face another day laced with work, chores, family and errands

mixing with the poor souls who have never learned to worship these wonders

she will return for her daily dose of bayside nature tomorrow

My trusty pillow

My trusty pillow

There for me

When I am weary

Induces sleep quickly

Supports me while dreaming

Helps me wake up fresh

Witnessing good and bad

Listens to my whispers

Soaks up my sadness tears

Crumpled by laughter

Guards my secrets

Never complains

Never judges

No gossiping with other pillows

Always there

Waiting patiently

My nocturnal friend

Dream big, dream often but never stop dreaming

They say all things come to those who wait

Well that is certainly true if you are just waiting around to die

Who wants to wait forever to make your dreams come true

Make your five year plan and set some intermediate goals

Spend time every day working on some of the goals

Update your five year plan at least annually

Set time aside every day to reflect on your achievements

Enjoy where you are now and reward yourself with some daily me time

Forgive yourself for all your mistakes and missed opportunities

Keep your eyes and your heart wide open for new opportunities

Dream big, dream often but never stop dreaming

Do not be afraid to tear up your five year plan and make a new one

Great things come to those who steadily work towards making it happen

Riding adventure Part 6 Finale

back at the house Sir William gulped his third large single malt

hey there Montague he shouted

there must be something wrong with your rifle

I had that stag perfect in the sights when I pulled the trigger

come come Sir William said Lord Montague

we all miss a shot sometime

its part of the sport and there is always another season

I can assure you John always sets up a rifle perfectly

Lord Montague was unwavering in his defense of John

Sir William growled and looked so unhealthy

as he downed another large single malt

he might not even be around next season thought John

John smiled to himself after he left the room

nobody would ever know he had adjusted the rifle scope to make Sir William miss

there was only a week left in this season

giving the big stag a good chance to survive another year

Heather had surgery on her broken ankle

when she came home John was there to greet her

I think you might need some help while that ankle mends

you are so kind said Heather as she looked at the empty stable

I could never afford to buy another horse she sighed

John stopped by every day during her recovery

by the spring she was walking fine

but she missed her horse so much

in early summer she looked out to see John unloading a horse from a trailer

Lord Montague wants you to have him said John

but you must check in with the estate office every time you ride

oh I most certainly will she beamed

a few weeks later she rode out to the spot where her horse fell

she knelt by his grave and wept quietly

when she looked up she saw her stag with his head down

she took the note from his antlers- it read- will you marry me? love John

Riding adventure part 5

Lord Montague owned the estate where John worked

he asked John to come to his office

that was a fine thing you did yesterday he said

just how did you spot that young woman off the road

something caught my eye so I stopped to look

it turned out to be Heather McDonnell hobbling along

all I did was help her to the car and take her to town

she was taken to hospital by ambulance

very sad about her horse said the Lord

I want you to take a few men up there with the mini excavator

give the poor creature a decent burial out there

and let that young lady know I wish her a speedy recovery

you are my best stalker John and Sir William arrives next week

I want to to lead him to a big stag

absolutely replied John

hoping that he would not have to see Heather’s stag killed

John had led many hunts on the estate

he had seen a lot of rich Englishman follow him

doing everything for them but pull the trigger

just so they could hang a big trophy on the wall

Sir William was overweight rude and grumpy

John deliberately chose a long route to tire out the paying guest

eventually they spotted a big stag in the distance

John knew straight away it was the stag who rescued Heather

he was very professional about it all

there is no room for sentiment in hunting

they slowly approached the stag from downwind

keeping a low profile at all times

John checked the range and set up the scope on the rifle

he put the rifle in the tripod and told Sir William to take aim

John looked at the magnificent beast through binoculars

Sir Willam pulled the trigger and a shot rang out

Riding adventure Part 4

John Cavendish was driving to town

he worked for the owner of a large estate

he enjoyed the hour long journey along isolated roads

he sang to himself to pass the time away

as he rounded a bend he saw a huge stag in the road ahead

he slowed down expecting the big beast to run away

but the stag stood his ground

john stopped a few feet from the massive creature

he noticed something white on his antlers

John stepped out of his Land Rover to take a closer look

the stag lowered his head offering John the handkerchief

he quickly untied it and read the note inside

I fell from my horse and injured my ankle

my horse did not survive the fall

I am three miles west of the road to Larog

half a mile north of the river Coyne

it was signed and dated by Heather McDonnell

John knew he had to act fast

if he drove to town to raise the alarm

it would be too dark for a rescue team to find her

the stag ran away while John was reading the note

it was summer and the river was running low

John figured he could drive off-road next to the river bed

he drove as fast as he could along the rocky path

after a few miles he saw the Stag up ahead

he knew this was the place to head north on foot

he found Heather asleep next to her fallen horse

she was strangely calm when he woke her

he picked her up and carried her

she wrapped her arms around his neck

whispering into his ear

please tell nobody about the stag

Riding adventure -Part 3

she screamed help help at the top of her voice

nobody answered or came by

she looked at the beautiful Scottish scenery

starting to regret how remote and lonely it can be

she decided it was pointless to struggle on

she would never reach the road before nightfall

better to stay and hope for rescue

she slowly limped back to her horse

if she was going to die it must be with him

when she reached her horse

she collapsed beside him

sobbing uncontrollably

I am so sorry for leaving you she cried

she paused when she felt a presence again

she looked up but could see nobody

if you are there please come and help she cried

she turned round and gasped

a huge stag with full antlers was looking at her

he was very close and motionless

she was not afraid at all

his nostrils were flaring

picking up her scent

she beckoned him to come close

with a simple arm gesture

the huge beast slowly paced towards her

stopping a few feet way

he bent his head showing her his antlers

then pointing his head away

at first she did not understand

and then she realized he was communicating with her

reaching in her pocket she wrote a note

using her handkerchief to tie it to his antlers

Riding adventure -Part 2

she opened her eyes to see clouds

grateful that she could still breathe

lifting her head to take stock

her horse lay motionless beside her

he must have broken his neck

she had landed in soft mud

she sat up and looked around

surprisingly she felt no pain

she lifted her left leg from the deep mud

bent her knee and pushed herself to stand up

as soon as she was upright

she felt a sharp pain in her right ankle

she collapsed down to the ground again

unable to support any weight on her right leg

she could feel the swelling inside her riding boot

she realized the magnitude of her problem

she lived alone and had told nobody she was riding

in a remote area of the Scottish highlands

she was miles from the nearest road

nobody would be coming to rescue her

her survival instincts kicked in

she had to find a way to get to the road

she crawled back towards the fence

hauled herself up to sit on a fallen tree

the wooden fence was dilapidated

she pulled at the lowest piece of wood

somehow managing to break it free

miraculously it was the perfect height for a crutch

she stated to hobble along

keeping her right leg off the ground

after an hour she was exhausted

she had a feeling that somebody was close by
